Both figures are scheduled for release in July 2027 and will be produced to order. Pre-orders opened on July 25 through FURYU HOBBY MALL and other participating retailers, and will remain available until September 15.

Created to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Neon Genesis Evangelion, the project brings together FuRyu and long-established Japanese doll maker Yoshitoku. Asuka and Rei have been reimagined as traditional Japanese dolls following approximately two years of development.

Poses Inspired by Japanese Dance

The poses were developed with reference to movements from traditional Japanese dance while preserving the individual personalities of both characters.

Asuka is presented in a lively pose, arching her body as if catching the wind. The movement of her sleeves and kimono hem creates a dynamic and energetic silhouette.

Rei, by contrast, is given a quieter and more restrained presentation. Her left sleeve wraps around her arm and conceals her hand, reinforcing the figure’s calm and delicate atmosphere.

The costumes use the same types of fabrics and patterns found in real kimono. Rather than simply sculpting the clothing onto the figures, the garments are actually dressed onto their bodies, creating a more authentic silhouette and the refined appearance associated with traditional Japanese dolls.

Sculpting and Expressions

Special attention has been paid to the sculpting of the hands and facial features.
The fingers feature soft, gently curved shapes, while the hand positions have been designed to naturally interact with accessories such as the fan and parasol.

The lips have also been carefully sculpted to give the faces greater three-dimensional definition.
In keeping with the celebratory theme of the project, both Asuka and Rei feature gentle, natural smiles.
Kimono Design and Evangelion Motifs

The kimono costumes use a luxurious two-layer construction created especially for the 30th anniversary celebration.

Each character’s color palette draws inspiration from her respective plug suit, while the obi incorporates a hexagonal pattern reminiscent of the A.T. Field.

Asuka and Rei use matching fabrics and patterns, creating a coordinated look when the two figures are displayed together.
